Current Advances In The Development Of Mobile And Smart Devices Have Generated A Growing Demand For Natural Human-Machine Interaction And Favored The Intelligent Assistant Metaphor, In Which A Single Interface Gives Access To A Wide Range Of Functionalities And Services. Conversational Systems Constitute An Important Enabling Technology In This Paradigm. However, They Are Usually Defined To Interact In Semantic-Restricted Domains In Which Users Are Offered A Limited Number Of Options And Functionalities. The Design Of Multi-Domain Systems Implies That A Single Conversational System Is Able To Assist The User In A Variety Of Tasks. In This Paper We Propose An Architecture For The Development Of Multi-Domain Conversational Systems That Allows: (1) Integrating Available Multi And Single Domain Speech Recognition And Understanding Modules, (2) Combining Available System In The Different Domains Implied So That It Is Not Necessary To Generate New Expensive Resources For The Multi-Domain System, (3) Achieving Better Domain Recognition Rates To Select The Appropriate Interaction Management Strategies. We Have Evaluated Our Proposal Combining Three Systems In Different Domains To Show That The Proposed Architecture Can Satisfactory Deal With Multi-Domain Dialogs. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. Proceedings of: 9th International Conference (HAIS 2014), Salamanca, Spain, June 11-13, 2014Mobile devices programming has emerged as a new trend in software development. The main developers of operating systems for such devices have provided APIs for developers to implement their own applications, including different solutions for developing voice control. Android, the most popular alternative among developers, offers libraries to build interfaces including different resources for graphical layouts as well as speech recognition and text-to-speech synthesis. Despite the usefulness of such classes, there are no strategies defined for multimodal interface development for Android systems, and developers create ad-hoc solutions that make apps costly to implement and difficult to compare and maintain. In this paper we propose a framework to facilitate the software engineering life cycle for multimodal interfaces in Android. Our proposal integrates the facilities of the Android API in a modular architecture that emphasizes interaction management and context-awareness to build sophisticated, robust and maintainable applications. This work was supported in part by Projects MINECO TEC2012-37832-C02-01, CICYT TEC2011-28626-C02-02, CAM CONTEXTS (S2009/TIC-1485)

Despite The Recent Improvements In Performance And Reliably Of The Different Components Of Dialog Systems, It Is Still Crucial To Devise Strategies To Avoid Error Propagation From One Another. In This Paper, We Contribute A Framework For Improved Error Detection And Correction In Spoken Conversational Interfaces. The Framework Combines User Behavior And Error Modeling To Estimate The Probability Of The Presence Of Errors In The User Utterance. This Estimation Is Forwarded To The Dialog Manager And Used To Compute Whether It Is Necessary To Correct Possible Errors. We Have Designed An Strategy Differentiating Between The Main Misunderstanding And Non-Understanding Scenarios, So That The Dialog Manager Can Provide An Acceptable Tailored Response When Entering The Error Correction State. As A Proof Of Concept, We Have Applied Our Proposal To A Customer Support Dialog System. Our Results Show The Appropriateness Of Our Technique To Correctly Detect And React To Errors, Enhancing The System Performance And User Satisfaction. This work was supported in part by Projects MINECO TEC2012-37832-C02-01, CICYT TEC2011-28626-C02-02, CAM CONTEXTS (S2009/TIC-1485)

Safety of permanent pacemaker implantation: a prospective study

    Get PDF
Although pacemaker implantation is considered to be low risk, it is not exempt from complications and technical failures during the procedure, both in the short and long term, and the complications that such patients may present remain unknown. The aim has been to analyze the complication rates associated with permanent pacing and to identify if these differ between patients with or without previous antithrombotic therapy. We used a prospective, single center, observational study of 310 adult patients with indications of permanent pacing. They were hospitalized from 1 January to 31 December 2014 and followed up for 6 months after the pacemaker implant. The participants were distributed into two groups according to the antithrombotic therapy prior to the implant. The most frequent major complications were pneumothorax (3.87%) and lead dislodgement (8.39%), while superficial phlebitis (12.90%) and uncomplicated hematomas (22.58%) were presented as the most recurrent minor complications. Hematomas were the most frequent minor complication in the antithrombotic therapy cohort, and shoulder pain was reported as the most recurrent minor complication in the non-exposed group. Finding out about complications in pacemaker implants enables a complete view of the process, and hence the prioritization of actions aimed at improving safety and reducing associated risks

Learning sequences of rules using classifier systems with tags

IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics. Tokyo, 12-15 October 1999.The objective of this paper was to obtain an encoding structure that would allow the genetic evolution of rules in such a manner that the number of rules and relationship in a classifier system (CS) would be learnt in the evolution process. For this purpose, an area that allows the definition of rule groups has been entered into the condition and message part of the encoded rules. This area is called internal tag. This term was coined because the system has some similarities with natural processes that take place in certain animal species, where the existence of tags allows them to communicate and recognize each other. Such CS is called a tag classifier system (TCS). The TCS has been tested in the game of draughts and compared with the classical CS. The results show an improving of the CS performance

RTCS: a reactive with tags classifier system

    Get PDF
In this work, a new Classifier System is proposed (CS). The system, a Reactive with Tags Classifier System (RTCS), is able to take into account environmental situations in intermediate decisions. CSs are special production systems, where conditions and actions are codified in order to learn new rules by means of Genetic Algorithms (GA). The RTCS has been designed to generate sequences of actions like the traditional classifier systems, but RTCS also has the capability of chaining rules among different time instants and reacting to new environmental situations, considering the last environmental situation to take a decision. In addition to the capability to react and generate sequences of actions, the design of a new rule codification allows the evolution of groups of specialized rules. This new codification is based on the inclusion of several bits, named tags, in conditions and actions, which evolve by means of GA. RTCS has been tested in robotic navigation. Results show the suitability of this approximation to the navigation problem and the coherence of tag values in rules classification.Publicad

4 pages, no figures.-- Contributed to: 1999 EUSFLAT-ESTYLF Joint Conference (Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Sep 22-25, 1999).Domain analysis tries to reuse software in an effective way. New methodologies are starting to be able to automate the process, in different degrees, with the construction of a domain model for each problem. The general process is divided into several phases. One of the most diffcult tasks is the generation of the relationships which have to be defined between the components in the domain. In this paper the use of fuzzy logic and a statistical classification method in order to get the semantic relationships for each pair of components is presented.Publicad
